Are the words "tatarak" or "pivo" mystery to you? Follow:

There is no doubt that every country has its own peculiarities, often simplified (and well-preserved) in a form of stereotypes. Everybody has his own image of an average American, German, or French, but how many of you could say anything about the Czech people and their habits before spending at least a little time in the Czech Republic?

There are at least three points of view on the Czech Republic, depending on how much time and dedication you have devoted to the absorbing of the Czech culture.

(1) Unengaged tourist

The idea of the Czech Republic is usually gained through one-day trip to Prague with the standard portfolio of experiences – other /annoying/ tourists everywhere (firmly supported by the I-am-nothing-like-them self-perception), do-they-want-to-rip-me-off sensation every time you pay at the restaurant, beautiful architecture, beautiful monuments, beautiful whatever – all of that, in the end of the day, becomes perfectly interchangeable with any other touristic memory.

(2) Erasmus student

The Czech Republic seems to be paradise on the Earth. Czech beer tastes heavenly, Czech prices are friendly, Czech girls are also very friendly, what more could you wish for? Maybe, just maybe, a better costumer service…

(3) Full immersionist

The Czech beer was so good and the Czech girl so beautiful that you decided to settle down in the “Czech pit”. That might have been the greatest or the worst decision ever. If you are immune to the bureaucratic chaos, mean shop assistants, and omnipresent negativism, congratulations!, you found a country with one of the most comfortable way of life. Czech people like to eat and drink well, and in general have lots of fun (rather than striving for high career achievements). Once you get closer to them, they never let you stand alone – you become a part of the “gang”, from now to forever because Czech people, although they at first like to play “hard to get” (meaning in terms of friendship), are the most loyal friends in the whole world.
